LOCATIONS

Welcome to the fantastically unpretentious realm of Windmill Fish Bar, a hidden gem nestled at 211 Kennington Lane, London SE11 5QS. This family-run eatery is more than a mere spot for fried fish; it's a sanctuary for those seeking genuine, hearty fare that encapsulates the essence of traditional British cuisine.

What sets Windmill Fish Bar apart is not just its delectable offerings, but the entire experience. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, thanks largely to the friendly staff who make you feel right at home. As Andrew West aptly points out, “some places are about the posh lighting and snazzy furniture,” and while Windmill may not be Instagram-perfect, it shines brightly in the areas that truly matter: food quality, cleanliness, and a welcoming spirit.

Freshness is king here. Customers rave about the made-to-order fish and chips, with Dean Cunliffe noting that a brief wait for your food is a small price to pay for perfection. Each bite of the flaky cod wrapped in crispy batter leaves a lasting impression. Combine this with the perfectly cooked, crisp chips, and you have a meal that is comforting, satisfying, and supremely good. Giles Thompson agrees, praising the “incredible” chips that accompany the perfectly fried fish.

Windmill Fish Bar doesn’t just excel at fish; it even offers cheeky fried chicken pieces that have earned their own rave reviews. Whether you’re stopping by for a quick lunch or a family gathering, the large portions and diverse menu ensure there’s something for everyone. As highlighted by customers like Marium Tariq, families find this spot particularly accommodating, enhancing your dining experience with warmth and hospitality.

For those tasting fish and chips for the first time—like Mark Franklin—Windmill sets a high bar. He called his cod “super delicious,” suggesting that the quality here is not just a claim, but a promise fulfilled.

Indulge in the delightful flavors and generous portions, while soaking in the happy atmosphere created by the dedicated staff. It’s not just food; it’s a celebration of community and tradition, lovingly served on a plate.

Couldn’t leave London before having proper fish and chips. After reading the reviews I had to stop by. The owner and his son are very funny and friendly. Service is quick as the food comes out as you sit down. The food, price, and the portion size are great. Would come back here again.

We came to this restaurant to break our fast after a long day. The customer service here was fantastic! We were a large family with children, and the workers were very friendly and welcoming. We were even offered some soup to break our fast. The food was very tasty, and the portions were quite large. We ordered fish and chips and some chicken burgers. The atmosphere here was amazing and made for a pleasant time.

First time having fish and chips in England, it was super delicious. The staff were very friendly and the portion was huge! I ordered the “regular” size but they also have medium and large if for some reason you want more. I’d definitely suggest this spot to anyone interested, they have a few different kinds of fish they fry but recommend the cod, it was excellent. This might be my favorite thing I’ve eaten so far on this trip
